GRIP GUARD PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS & APPLICATIONS
Grip Guard non-slip treatment is a permanent modification treatment that increases the slip resistance
of hard floors including marble, granite, ceramic, porcelain, terrazzo, aggregate, slate, concrete, and
other stone-based surfaces.
All smooth profile flooring relies on surface absorbency to dictate how slippery it will be in wet
conditions. The degree of wet floor slip resistance on smooth profile floors is dictated by the extent of
moisture absorbency the surface allows under pressure. The less absorbent the surface, the more the
liquid will build up under pressure and cause a foot to aquaplane across the surface.
Grip Guard’s anti-slip treatment modifies the dimensions of the pore structures in a controlled way that
improves wet floor slip-resistance by modifying the porosity/absorbency of the topmost surface pore
structure. The special blend of chemicals finds its way into the existing pore structure and over a
period of time modifies the depth of these pores.
Unlike etching processes which chemically abrade the surface itself and roughens the texture, Grip
Guard treatment leaves most surfaces looking like they did before and feeling the same when dry.
Grip Guard is not a coating that sits on the top of the surface only to be worn away by continual
pedestrian traffic.
Grip Guard treatment is a controlled application that is uniquely formulated for each individual floor
surface. Consequently, this treatment is only installed by trained Grip Guard operators and is not
available for use by untrained applicators.
Floors treated with Grip Guard non-slip treatment can be maintained in normal fashion to provide a
long lasting safety improvement.
Grip Guard is a 3-step process that treats floors to make them more slip resistant – especially when
wet. All surfaces are tested for slip resistance using an ATSM slip meter both prior to and following
treatment. Test results are documented on the Grip Guard Warranty.
